Wow what a busy year this has been for Berkshire Young Farmers. My goal as social secretary this year was to get a group together and organise us to go on the annual YFC ski trip. This year 7 members from Berkshire went on the ski trip to Les Arc in France. We all had a fabulous week of skiing/snowboarding and partying with members from other counties. It was great to see during the week members who had never skied before going down red runs, everyone helping each other out when we inevitably fell over and everyone getting on so well.
Memorable moments from the week include Carrie falling down the chalet stairs, Declan snapping a ski pole in half and showing our chalet host how to party YFC style. The 2017 trip is all booked up with 9 of us going to Val Thorens.
We have also enjoyed a variety of senior meetings put on throughout the year. This has included a bowling meeting at Thatcham and a trip to Freedog Trampoline Park in Swindon. We have also enjoyed an evening at Newbury races where the Radio one DJ Scott Mills played a set afterwards. Newbury racecourse offered the young farmers a reduced rate for this meeting so that was worth taking advantage of.
Berkshire has had large groups of seniors attending county balls this year. We have scrubbed up and attended the Oxfordshire, Henley and Abingdon Balls. We may be a small county but we can definitely show the other counties how to party! I hope that by having a presence at other county events means that they may support balls and fundraisers that we do in the future.
It is great to see all the Berkshire seniors getting on so well. We regularly meet up at the pub after county events, for people’s birthdays and just when we fancy having a catch up!
I hope the new social secretary enjoys this role as much as I have
